Business Breakfast
The Design Thinking programme was designed to culminate in a Community Hackathon on Thursday, 15th June 2023 which took place at the I-CAN Centre in Elsies River where 6 winning groups were selected out of 11 groups. The top 6 Hackathon winner groups then proceeded to the Business Breakfast Day on Friday 30 June 2023 where the top (1st prize) group winner, and the 2nd and 3rd prize group winners were selected out of the 6 competing groups on that day.
The objective of the Business Breakfast Day was for the guest-judges to select and rank the 6 groups from 1st to 6th. The day concluded in the Graduation Ceremony where everyone received certificates according to the completion of the Design Thinking Programme as well as to the 6-group ranking winners of the overall course.
The knowledge, skills; attributes acquired by the learners as outcomes of the Design Thinking curriculum were enhanced as follows during the 2 weeks leading up to the Business Day. They were requested to incorporate the feedback and recommendations given to them by the Hackathon judges. They were asked to redesign their presentation and given further feedback by the I-CAN Centre Team and the Service Providers who provided further mentorship and guidance and technical presentation support to refine their pitches. The scoring metrics for the Business Breakfast was developed as a 1 page score sheet where each judge or delegates would complete it at the end of all the presentations. The sheet outlined each group with names of the entrepreneurs presented.
